The plants near the rivers are adapted to annual floods during the rainy season. Seasonal floods cover
vast expanses of the floodplains for an average of four to seven months each year. The forest floor may be 10 or
more meters below the surface. Some of the trees of the forest can reach 40 meters in height.

Some species of plants will drop their leaves
during the flood and grow new foliage when the water recedes. The Black River water could pass in color for dark tea.
It is more acidic than coca-cola, but much better for you. The color is caused by the end-products of forest
decomposition. It is very pleasant to swim in black water.
